Castanea curates… a new-season edit

Posted by Paula Marron on

Summertime seems like a far away fantasy now as we hunker down and quietly cocoon ourselves against the sharp chill beginning to cut through each day. As gorgeous as those summer months were,  they were an incredibly busy time for me, overseeing every detail of my autumn/winter collection. Do you find autumn a welcome relief in some ways? It’s a quieter time, isn’t it? A period of predictability and routine, yes, but with that, space to just be still.

It’s this serenity, this sense of the undisturbed, that inspired my new collection.

Time and space, both literally and figuratively, have become as much of a luxury these days as silky smooth cashmere. This season, I really wanted one to embody the other. That feeling of tranquillity we all crave – and need – was my starting point for autumn/winter, and it manifested itself in a combination of quiet, restful hues, such as Sea Foam and Day Dream, as well as effortless styles that simply do all the work for you. Each piece was designed to create a feeling of calm, comfort and wellbeing when worn.

As I’ve always said, luxury cashmere is a form of self-care, and it will provide for you as long as you care for it.

Your classic Castanea favourites return this season – the Clodagh hoodie and Niamh’s cardigan, for instance – coupled with an edit of fresh silhouettes that, for me, embody a tangible sense of sanctuary. The Maya cardigan, with its textured ribbed design, has a versatile neckline, which can be worn zipped up as an enveloping funnel neck or left open to create an oversized collar effect. Patch pockets inject a stylish utilitarian vibe that act as a subtle counterpoint to the two delicately feminine shades it’s offered in. Layer it over the new ribbed Gwen funnel-neck knit for an easy-to-wear but individual look.

I’ve always wanted Castanea cashmere to feel cosy and uncomplicated, but to appear considered. Tranquillity is achieved through balance, and this applies as much to design as to our inner selves. Understated but directional detailing brings this equilibrium to Castanea’s reassuring silhouettes and soothing textures. Contrasting shades, pointelles, honeycomb and waffle knits, and cleverly positioned hand-stitching bring a distinction to the collection, elevating even the simplest pieces.

This autumn/winter’s new overlong Stevie scarf, for example, is exquisitely finished with a statement hand-stitch, injecting this wardrobe basic with a refinement and point of difference that will never feel anything other than fresh and relevant.

This collection feels especially relevant right now as we shelter against the political and social chaos brewing up another kind of storm outside. While, of course, clothes aren’t the answer to everything, they are one tool we can use to arm ourselves, physically and emotionally. A piece of luxury Castanea cashmere can simplify your day and support you in feeling calm and cared for, as it does me.

I hope you love the new collection as much as I do.

Take care.

Love Paula x
